Mool Mantra: The Essence of Guru Nanak’s Divine Vision

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Guru Nanak Dev Ji spoke of the One, described the nature of that One, and gave the message that humans should merge with that Oneness.

ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤਰ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ” (Meanings of the Mool Mantar)

ਇਕ ਉਹ ਸੁਭ ਆਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹਸਤੀ I ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਤ ਹੈ I ਜੋ ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ I ਜੋ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ I ਜੋ ਵੈਰ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ I ਜੋ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਦਾਇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ I ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਓਂਦੇ I ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਭਾਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹਨ I ਉਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ I

There is one Being beyond all forms, whose name is Truth, who is the Creator Being, who is free from fear, free from enmity—meaning He bears no hatred toward anyone—who is beyond time, not bound by the limits of time, who does not go through cycles of birth and death, who is unborn—self-illuminated and not created by anyone—who can only be realized through the Grace of the Guru.
